Several persons are arrested for distributing fake money in Gulbene district – Gulbene district – Dzirkstele.lv

In April, several attempts to pay for a purchase using fake money were detected in the Gulbene region. A criminal trial was started for the incident, the possible culprits were arrested.

“In April 2024, in the service territory of the North Vidzeme precinct of the Vidzeme Regional Administration of the State Police, several cases were found when a man tried to pay for a purchase in a store using a fake 50 euro banknote. A total of nine criminal proceedings have been initiated for these cases according to the first part of Article 192 of the Criminal Law. Such a criminal offense is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period of three to ten years, with or without confiscation of property. By carrying out a series of investigative activities, the State Police identified several involved persons, two of whom were detained. In the course of the investigation, two persons were recognized as suspects, while two persons were given the status of a person against whom criminal proceedings have been initiated,” informs Zane Vaskāne, senior specialist of the Public Relations Department of the State Police (administrative affairs of the Vidzeme region).

Suspects are subject to non-custodial security measures. The persons were born in 1964, 1986, 1995, 1996 and have previously come to the attention of the police for various offenses.

“The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until his guilt in committing a criminal offense is proven in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law,” adds Z. Vaskane.
