Siliņa stated that this situation was discussed with Valaini, the issue was also discussed in the coalition.

“We are not really satisfied with the existing procedure for selecting managers, and we should find a way that we could change,” said Siliņa.

The coalition has already agreed to promote regulations that would allow the management staff “to be also from the European Union countries, thus promoting the competitiveness of our leading state and municipal capital companies”.

The Prime Minister emphasized that currently the selection of such leaders has become too mathematical, but the minister is the one who takes political responsibility for the leader’s work, he will also have to cooperate with this person.

Also, Siliņa pointed out that currently the selection process is too long, which leads to the fact that people from the private sector do not apply for such positions.

CONTEXT:

A record number of applicants – 52 – applied for the LIAA director’s competition, and as a result of the competition, Economy Minister Viktoras Valainis was offered a choice between two finalists: Baiba Błodniec and Fredi Bikova.

However, the minister expressed his desire to see information about a wider range of candidates, as the offer did not match what he expected from the commission, LTV program “De facto” reported. However, the State Chancellery stated that the law forbids them from revealing such information to the minister.

As a result, the minister decided to end the competition for the position of LIAA director without a result.
