The area where the service park of the world rally championship will be located is being improved in Karosta

It is planned to arrange the area in an area of ​​more than 2 hectares, preserving the existing reinforced concrete pavements as much as possible.

Dismantling of the dangerous and disturbing reinforced concrete structures has begun. In May, it is planned to start changing the cover in a large part of the green areas – the soil layer will be excavated, replacing it with crushed mineral material.

Already this year, the arranged field will be used for the service park of the FIA ​​World Rally Championship stage, with World Rally Championship teams being accommodated on the field.

The works are carried out by SIA “Smaile L”.

175 thousand euros have been allocated from the municipal budget for the improvement of the square.

For some time, this land was privately owned, but it was mortgaged and it was purchased at an auction by the municipality of Liepāja.

It started the recultivation of the degraded territory already in 2018.

The former construction administration of the Soviet troops had left behind the remains of dangerous slums and construction debris in this place, which they removed and also cut down the bushes.

It is the Liepāja SEZ territory, prospectively intended for the needs of the port, for which access roads and a railway could be built.

While the port does not need anything here, in 2020 a parking lot was arranged on the western side of the territory and lighting was built.
