On April 23, 2024, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Elita Gavele, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.

In the conversation that took place after the solemn accreditation ceremony, the Latvian ambassador and the Italian president discussed the political and economic relations of the two countries. Promotion of tourism in order to popularize Latvia as a destination for Italian tourists was one of the main highlights of the conversation. While discussing the bilateral relations of the two countries, the officials recognized the need to further strengthen the cooperation between universities, especially the mobility of young people and students.

Latvia and Italy are like-minded countries, close partners in the EU and NATO. Continuing the conversation in a friendly atmosphere, Ambassador Elita Gavele expressed special gratitude for Italy’s participation in the NATO extended presence battle group stationed in Latvia and participation in the NATO Baltic airspace patrol mission.

The Ambassador of Latvia and the President of Italy also discussed the current situation in Ukraine, agreeing on the need to provide all kinds of support to Ukraine, against which Russia has launched military aggression.
