Seafarers will have to pay 115% more for waste removal

--

In the future, you will have to pay significantly more for waste removal in Jurmala. The fee for the management of one ton of unsorted household waste will be 323.06 euros per ton from June 1 instead of the current 150.38 euros.

According to the results of the procurement competition, the company SIA “Clean R” has won the right to provide household waste management in the administrative territory of the city of Jūrmala for the next seven years. Since this is a new contract, it is the duty of Jūrmala residents and companies to change the contract with SIA “Clean R” by May 25 of this year in order to receive a continuous waste management service.

Commenting on the city council’s decision, opposition MP Jānis Asars (National Union) points out that Jūrmala is currently the only municipality in Latvia that has a system that provides for the settlement of household waste depending on its weight. In 2018, when switching to such a system, the city council promised the residents that it would be both fairer and more profitable, besides, no one expected such a dramatic increase in the tariff. Therefore, in Asara’s opinion, the indignation expressed by the residents about the fee increase is completely understandable and justified
