On April 20 of this year, the 3rd International Oskar Strok Competition was held in the concert hall of Daugavpils Iespei Secondary School.

Unlike previous times, this year not only young pianists participated, but also young composers, and for the first time the competition was held in person. The purpose of the competition: to promote the development of piano playing and composition skills for young musicians and to honor the name of the world-famous composer and pianist Oskars Strok, who was born in Daugavpils.

This year, more than 150 children and young people from several Latvian cities (Daugavpils, Riga, Jūrmala, Cēsis, Rēzekne, Kārsava, Roja, Aizkraukle, Pļaviņas, Jēkabpils, Saldus, Pāvilosta, Ludza, Talsi, Rūjiena, etc.) participated in the competition, as well as from for other countries: Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland and Hungary.

Ten members of the jury from Estonia, Israel, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and Germany evaluated the performance of the contestants.

The winners in their categories were:

Evening in Sinkevičius (Lithuania),

Polina Taraniuk (Sigulda),

Aleksandrs Polisadovs (Sigulda),

Toms Škiels (Madona county),

Ester Pink (Rujien),

Helga Kaibald (Estonia),

Dominika Valdmane (Riga),

Jolanta Valdmane (Riga),

Patricija Vilkaite (Lithuania),

Samuel Szemenyei (Hungary),

Marija Aleksa Muižzemniece (Riga),

piano duo Lukne Matonyte and Liepa Paukštyte (Lithuania).

Among the Daugavpils participants, pianist Yegors Košlačs from Daugavpils Iespeivi Secondary School (teacher Ināra Juštele) showed the best result, who received the Gold Diploma in the final of the Grand Prize competition.

The Oskar Strokas International Competition is organized by Daugavpils Ispeivi Secondary School in cooperation with Daugavpils State City Education Board, Daugavpils State City Municipal Institution “Vienības nams” and Daugavpils University.
