In Indonesia, a 31-year-old tourist fell into an active volcano. The tragedy happened during a photo shoot

An attempt to take a vacation photo ended tragically.

Local media reports that the 31-year-old woman, Huang Lihong, and her husband were on vacation in East Java, Indonesia.

The couple climbed the volcano with a local guide to watch the sunrise from the rim of the volcano. However, while posing for photos, the woman tripped and fell into the crater.

One of the published photos shows Lihong posing on the edge of a volcano with one leg raised. Behind her, steam and plumes of sulfur can be seen in the background.

Local media reports that she fell into a 75 meter deep crater. It took rescuers more than two hours to extricate her body.

Dwi Putro Sujarto, head of the Baniuwangi Regional Defense Department, told local media that the incident was an accident. He advises that tourists should always be careful when climbing Mount Iyen.

Lihong’s body is scheduled to be flown to Bali and then back to China.

Mount Ijen belongs to a group of volcanoes located in East Java. They are known for their blue fire and crater lake formed from sulfur gases.
