The Polish community of Daugavpils invites you to the May holiday “With Poland in your heart”

On May 2 of this year from At 10.00 a.m., the May holiday celebration “With Poland in the Heart” will be held in Daugavpils, which is organized in honor of the Flag Day of the Republic of Poland, the holiday of Poles living abroad, the Day of the Polish Constitution and the Day of the Restoration of the Independence of the Republic of Latvia.

Holidays at 10.00 Daugavpils in the Roman Catholic Church of the Heart of Jesus (Balozu Street 3) will enter Holy Mass in the intention of Poles living outside Poland. In continuation, at 11.30 a.mfestival participants are invited to a moment of remembrance at the cross dedicated to fallen Polish legionnaires in Freedom Parkwhich will follow march along Warsaw street, which has become an indispensable tradition since the beginning of the last century. The march along Warsaw street will go to Juzefa Pilsudska Daugavpils State Polish Gymnasium (Marijas Street 1), where at 13.00 will take place in the assembly hall holiday concert of Polish groups. Folk dance collective “Kukulečka” (“Kukułeczka”) from Daugavpils and guests from Poland: Folk dance and song collective “Lukovjaci” (“Łukowiacy”) of Lukovo land and choir “Polonia” (“Polonia”) from Warsaw will take part in it. Entrance to the concert is free.

According to the festival organizers: “May holidays are particularly important days for Poland and for Poles scattered around the world due to historical reasons and traditions that every Pole should know. The beginning of May is a time of celebratory events aimed at honoring the most important events and symbols of the history of Polish statehood. We celebrate four holidays and each of them enriches our culture and traditions with particularly important values. The combination of the Polish May Day with the Latvian “White Tablecloth Day” will be the culmination of the event, proving that this year’s slogan “May Day “With Poland in the Heart”” was not chosen by chance! Let us – the former Poles of Dinaburg – in this on the special day, one could show one’s position on many public issues, express one’s patriotic feelings, as well as talk about history and the role of the constitution of our homeland, Poland, today.”

The organizers of the May festival are the Polish Culture Center of the Daugavpils State City Municipal Authority “Vienības Nams” in cooperation with the Daugavpils Division of the Polish Union of Latvia “Promen” (“Promień”), the Polish Union of Latvia, the Latvian and Latvian Cultural Center of the Daugavpils State City Municipal Authority “Vienības Nams” and Juzefa Pilsudska Daugavpils State Polish Gymnasium.

The events are supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Riga, the Jan Olševski Foundation “Help for Poles in the East” (“Pomoc Polakom na Wschodzie”) and the association “South Latgale NGO Support Center”.
