--

On March 26, 2024, the Central Finance and Contracts Agency approved the final payment request for project no. 4.5.1.1/21/I/005 “Environmentally friendly and integrated mobility in the city of Daugavpils”, which is the largest implemented project in the 2014-2020 planning period of the European Union in the Latgale region.
The amount of eligible expenses of the project is EUR 27,269,999.73, incl. European Union funding EUR 23,179,499.77, state budget grant to municipalities EUR 1,227,149.99 and municipal funding EUR 2,863,349.97.

As part of the project, 4 new tram cars have been purchased, which, in cooperation with Czech partners, were built in one of the city’s oldest companies – “Daugavpils Locomotive Repair Factory”. The trams built in Daugavpils, which meet modern requirements, are fully integrated into the city’s public transport route network. The new tram cars are equipped with air conditioning and video surveillance systems, USB charging is also available. Screens are installed in the cabin, which allow you to quickly and easily determine the location of the tram and when the required stop will be. The low-floor carriages are convenient for people with mobility impairments and mothers with prams.

Within the framework of this project, construction work has also been completed in several tram track reconstruction facilities: on Smilšu Street from Valkas Street to Jātnieku Street (0.7 km long), on Jātnieku Street from Smilšu Street to the Depo area (0.9 km), as well as on tram route 2 from from the intersection of 18 november and Ventspils streets to Jāņa street (2.9 km).

Taking into account that the works on the objects have been completed in winter, they have been put into operation with the postponed works (improvement of the territory, greening, planting of trees and bushes, application of the surface layer of the driveways and sidewalks, etc.) in a favorable season, but no later than June 1, 2024.

The aim of the project is to promote the use of environmentally friendly public transport and increase the number of passengers in environmentally friendly public transport in Daugavpils.
