On May 2, the electronic registration of students for participation in the summer work of students was started. The initiative is centrally organized by the State Employment Agency (NVA) and by the morning of May 3, 6,998 students had already registered for summer work.

NVA director Evita Simsone emphasizes: “The summer employment event, which we organize together with employers, is a great opportunity for students to get their first work experience and develop work skills. We are happy about the great interest, but we can already see that there will be more people than opportunities, so we invite you to plan your summer in time and register for work opportunities in the summer.”

Applying for a summer job is simple – students can fill out the application form on the NVA website in the “Student summer job” section. The application form must indicate the location of the desired workplace, the name of the educational institution, and other data. If there are any questions, students can contact the relevant NVA branch, where the responsible employee will provide the necessary information. Registration for the initiative will continue until August 16. It is important to note that registration does not yet guarantee a place at the event, as the number of jobs is limited. This year, funding is available to provide employment for 10,376 students.

About application

The duration of the student’s employment can vary from two weeks to two months. In addition, if the student has already agreed on working hours with the particular employer, this should be indicated in the application form. The NVA employee will send the assignment to the student to the e-mail address specified in the application form, while the student will be sent a text message about the assignment to the phone number specified in the application form.

The list of vacancies offered to students will be published on the NVA website in the “Student summer job” section.

The summer employment event for students will take place from June 1 to August 31. Pupils aged 15 to 20 (inclusive) who are studying in general, special or professional educational institutions are invited to participate in the event. The student’s monthly salary for full working time will not be less than the amount of the state minimum salary – 700 euros before taxes. Children of Ukrainian civilians will be able to work in state co-financed workplaces this summer as well.

A student between the ages of 15 and 17 is employed no more than 7 hours a day and no more than 35 hours a week, while those aged 18 to 20 are employed 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. Pupils are not employed in jobs involving increased risk to their safety, health, morals and development.

More detailed information about the active employment measure “Employment measures during the summer vacation for persons who receive education in general, special or vocational education institutions” implemented by the NVA is available in the “Employment during the summer vacation” section of the NVA website (https://www.nva.gov.lv/lv/skolenu-vasaras-nodarbinatiba-skoleniem).
