Video: The new sea eagle of the Durbes nest will be called Hugo

1732 people took part in the poll, and the name Hugo won with 556 votes and the support of the LDF jury.

LETA already reported that the LDF invited to give a name to the new sea eagle of Durbe’s nest, which until now was called Mr. H.

Two eggs are currently being hatched in the Durbe sea eagle nest.

As reported, a second egg was laid in the sea eagle’s nest in Durbe, the events of which are broadcast live by LDF on March 26, after sunset. The first egg this season was laid on March 23.

Compared to the two previous years, this spring the first egg was laid much later. For example, last year the first egg was laid on March 8, and in 2022 – on March 15.

This year, the nest owner, Milda, and her new ringed partner, H 492, or Mr. H, had to build a new nest because the previous nest collapsed in last fall’s storm.

From February 19 to March 23, the two birds have built a nest from 917 branches of different sizes.

The biggest builder was Mr. H, who wrapped 739 branches in the nest, while Milda had 178 branches, according to the statistics made on the “Dabasdati.lv” forum.

As reported, the home of sea eagles in Kurzeme, Durbe county, is the most popular LDF live broadcast. The nest is in the top of an old fir tree about the height of a nine-story house. This nest is a veteran of live broadcasts – it has been observed since 2015.

It is possible to comment on what is happening in the nest in the “Dabasdati.lv” forum in Latvian and in the “Looduskalender.ee” forum in English.

The book “Brīnumola” written by Imantas Bunkš is dedicated to the sea eagle Durberta, which hatched in 2015.
