In the past five days, between March 28 of this year at 6:30 a.m. to April 2 at At 6.30, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received 357 calls – 180 for extinguishing fires, of which 98 were for bushfires and four were for forest fires, 107 were for rescue work, but 70 calls were false.

Thursday at At 22.16 VUGD received information that a fire has broken out in a two-story residential house in Priekule Parish, Southern Kurzeme Region. Arriving at the scene, firefighters and rescuers found that the heating room and household goods totaling 80 m were on fire on the first floor of the building.2 in area. While trying to extinguish the flames before the arrival of the firefighters, a person was injured and handed over to the EMS medics. Work at the scene ended at 00.54.

Friday at At 20.55 VUGD received information that smoke has formed in a five-story residential building on Spīdolas Street in Aizkraukle. Saturday at At 14.54 VUGD received information that a fire had broken out in a two-story residential building on Aspazijas Street in Saldū. Arriving at the scene, firefighters and rescuers found that 12 m of household goods were burning in the apartment on the first floor of the building2, causing strong smoke, so they immediately started rescuing people from the building. Residents rescued one person from the burning apartment before the arrival of the firefighters, while the firefighters rescued five more people – two people were taken out of the second floor of the building through the smoky environment with the help of a rescue mask, and three more people were rescued through the window with the help of a ladder. Another seven people evacuated on their own. The rescue and extinguishing works ended at 16.47

At four o’clock in the afternoon, firefighters and rescuers went to Eduardas Tisė Street in Liepāja, where food was burnt on the stove in an apartment on the eighth floor of a nine-story residential building. A person who was injured in the accident was found and rescued in the apartment and handed over to the EMS medics.

On Sunday, shortly after ten in the morning, on Krasta Street in Ogre, firefighters rescued a person who had fallen from the steep bank of the river into the Ogre River.

On the night of Monday, around one o’clock in the morning, a 2 m tire of a truck was on fire on Tvaika Street in Riga2 in area. While extinguishing the flames before the arrival of firefighters, a person was injured in the fire.

Tonight at 2.19 VUGD received a call to Zirņu parish of Saldus county, where a fire had broken out in a timber production facility. At the scene, it was found that the roof of the one-story hangar-type building is on fire in its entire area and the flames are spreading to the neighboring buildings. The fire extinguishing work was hampered by the fact that there was a lot of combustible material at the scene, which contributed to the spread of the flames. This fire of increased danger, in which the production building burned 450 m2the adjacent building 300 m2shed 110 m2 in area, as well as a chip bunker and a pile of wood chips 100 m2 in area, located at 05.13. Fire rescuers managed to save three adjacent buildings, as well as tractor equipment and the company’s finished products from the flames. Work at the scene continues.

In the past 24 hours, 98 forest fires were extinguished throughout Latvia, of which 37 were on Thursday and 29 were on Sunday. The biggest of them:

  • On Thursday, 6 hectares burned in Valgunde Parish of Jelgava County, 3 hectares in Demenes Parish of Augšdaugava County, 2.5 hectares in Rīgas Street Jēkabpilī;
  • On Saturday, reeds and reeds were burning in Nagļi parish of Rēzekne county on an area of ​​seven hectares;
  • On Sunday, a 1.5-hectare fire burned in Platone Parish of Jelgava County and 1 hectare in Kalkūnes Parish of Upper Daugava County.
  • On Monday, 10 hectares burned in Demenes Parish of Augšdaugava County, 5 hectares in Staiceles Parish of Limbažu County, 3 hectares in Demenes Parish of Upper Daugava County, 2.5 hectares in Lädmanes Parish of Ogres County, 2 hectares on Blaumaņa Street in Daugavpils, 1 hectare on Dzelzceļmalas Street in Jēkabpils, 1 hectare in Tukuma County in Jaunsātu Parish .3 hectares in area.
