Buy the right seeds
Before growing a giant pumpkin, buy the right large varieties of seeds. The maximum size of a vegetable is limited by genetics. No matter how hard you try, an ordinary seed will not grow into a large fruit. Travis recommends buying seeds from purebred pumpkins, which are usually hand-harvested from large fruit by farmers. The variety that Travis buys is called Atlantic Giant.

Planted in April-May
April or early May is the perfect time to grow a large pumpkin in northern latitudes. The recordist recommends sowing the seeds after the end of frost. Travis himself planted the record pumpkin seed on April 10th.

Provide the right conditions
A very important nuance of how to grow a giant pumpkin is to give the vegetable enough space, water and sunlight. Route the pumpkin shoots so that there is plenty of space and good light in the place where they grow. To grow a large pumpkin, the farmer recommends feeding the plant with fertilizer made from fish waste and seaweed. Of the minerals, pumpkin needs potassium the most.

Pollinate by hand
The first new flower on the seedling will appear already in June. Bright yellow is a female flower. When it blooms, it should be pollinated. This should be done with the male flower – remove the petals to reveal the stamens. Then rub the stamen inside the female plant, spreading the yellow pollen. This will significantly improve the yield of the vegetable.

Water the pumpkin
Make sure the pumpkin gets plenty of sunlight and water as it grows. Water the vegetables with 10 liters of water per day, and in particularly hot weather – with 15 liters of water. You will see how the fruit will start to grow rapidly every day. After that, it’s just a matter of harvesting your super crop.
