One person was killed and six were wounded in a shooting in a northern suburb of Paris on Friday night, apparently linked to the settlement of drug dealers’ bills, the prosecutor’s office and the mayor said on Saturday.
In Sevran, which is located between the central part of Paris and Charles de Gaulle airport, an attack took place in the parking lot near the cultural center around 11:45 p.m., the prosecutor’s office said.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found four injured people. One of them soon died, and the other three were taken to the hospital in a serious condition, a police source said.
Later, three more people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, the source said, adding that two men drove up to the parking lot, one of them got out of the car and started shooting.
The attackers then fled.
As Stephane Blanchet, mayor of Sèvrans, told the AFP news agency, the event was “clearly a settlement of accounts linked to drug trafficking”.
“Order must be brought in and illegal trade eradicated,” the mayor said. “These idiots fired bullets and did not respond to calls for peace.”
The police have launched an investigation into an intentional murder committed by an organized group, law enforcement officials said.
