Real estate tax for land and housing is calculated per year and is divided into four payments; In 2024, the following payment terms have been set in the National Income Tax Act: April 2, May 15,
August 15 and November 15. The payment can be made both in installments within the indicated terms, and also in the form of an advance, paying the entire amount by the first payment deadline.

According to the information provided by the municipality, in 2023, 4.47 million euros of VAT was collected in Bauska county. In 2024, in the budget of the municipal government of Bauska region, the revenue from the National Tax Administration is planned to be 4.21 million euros.

Residents are still lazy in using electronic means of communication to receive information from the municipality, admits Gunita Vīgupa, head of the real estate department of the municipality of Bauska region. He informs “Bauskas Dzīvi” that in 2023 the municipality paid 18,132 euros including VAT for sending invoices through the post office. Last year, 14.9 thousand notifications were sent out; this year, 13.8 thousand notifications were delivered in paper format. The chairman of the county council, Aivars Okmanis, also emphasizes that money could be saved if more residents chose to receive tax payment notices electronically.

“There are parcels that come back, for example, there are new buildings in Iecava where there are no mailboxes. E-mails also come back, because people have changed their addresses, but have not informed the municipality about it. There is not much response from people to the transition to an electronic environment, they do not want to change their habits, and for a large part of people in rural areas with access to the Internet “it is the way it is”, likewise those who have not worked with a computer all their life do not need electronic, they need paper format. In addition, we know from experience that the use of e-addresses requires both new software and fairly good computers,” G. Vīgupa outlines the real situation.

On the other hand, the deputy chairman of the county council, Aivars Maceks, when inviting residents to apply to receive the notification electronically, emphasizes: «The Data Protection Regulation does not allow the municipality to use e-mail addresses of citizens on its own, even though we see, for example, that they are previously indicated in some submissions. In each individual case, there must be the resident’s own indication, for example, in this case, there must be an expressed desire to receive the real estate tax payment notice electronically to the address specified by him.»

It is already possible to apply electronically for the next year’s tax payment notice. On the portal www.epakalpojumi.lv, you can apply for the tax payment notice electronically in a few minutes and thus save budget funds that the municipality could direct to other purposes.
