You won’t put the bottle near the bottle, you won’t touch the flame: the apartment of a “fan” of the hot potion catches fire in Bauska

Neighbors do not speak favorably of one of the residents of Pilskalnas Street. The inhabitant of the fifth house does not hide the tendency to excessive alcohol consumption, and this tends to be disruptive. In addition, the mountains of empty bottles decorate the yard long enough to attract the disapproving glances of the people around.

“See what’s going on out there?! They can’t live without it – they can live without eating, but they can’t live without drinking,” says the resident of the house next door.

Neighbors saw the smoke around eleven o’clock in the morning. The resident of the burning apartment was not injured in the fire because he had gone out to do business.

“He got up in the morning, went to the store, came back, and is fully on fire. He didn’t have electricity, his electricity has been turned off,” neighbor Ināra can tell.

The fire was natural, neighbors say. The rooms loaded with piles indicated fire-safe conditions.

“Everything is thrown in one room, and if he throws a cigarette or a match…” says the resident of the house next door.

The fire station is a stone’s throw away, and the emergency services crews were not a minute late. Firefighters quickly realized that the work would be long, thanks to the stubbornness of the residents of the apartment, who did not get rid of the rubbish.

“The extinguishing work was made more difficult by the fact that the rooms were loaded with household items and the items had to be thrown out of the apartment in order to put out the flames,” explains VUGD representative Viktorija Gribuste.

Firefighters fought for several hours with piles of ashes and mountains of alcohol bottles, until they finally managed to see the outlines and walls of the rooms. Each of the items could be a potential source of flames and imperceptibly smolder from the inside, so the work in the burning apartment took a particularly long time for the operatives. The last brigade left Pilskalnas Street on one day.
