Exactly 20 years ago, on March 29, 2004, Latvia became a member of the powerful political and military alliance – the North Atlantic Treaty or NATO.

Today, we can call ourselves a safe and developed country, which is capable of actively participating in international politics, promoting peace and stability both in the region and in the world. However, Latvia’s path to this security and stability was not easy. This required reforms, extensive work and cooperation with international partners in order to create a safe environment for future generations, emphasized Latvian state leaders.

In order to honor Latvia’s 20 years in NATO and the hard work that Latvian people have invested, as well as to promote a wider understanding of Latvia’s development in the alliance and its contribution to the security and development of our country, the State Chancellery has created several materials that reveal and clearly show the historical path , which Latvia has gone through to strengthen its position in NATO.

The State Chancellery has gathered the most important information about Latvia’s membership in NATO and is has prepared a fact sheet: “Latvia’s 20 years in NATO“, where you can familiarize yourself with information about Latvia’s role and contribution to NATO, our country’s contribution to the common NATO mission, reflecting our significant participation and involvement in achieving the goals of the alliance.
