In the TV24 program “Globuss”, in an interview with Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the goals of Russian President Vladimir Putin were discussed, including the capture of Odesa, a resort city on the Black Sea in Ukraine, and a possible attack on the Baltic States.

“First of all, Putin has a big goal – to destroy Ukraine as such. He has not completely given up on it. But he also has more down-to-earth goals at the moment. I think Odessa is his first target. I’m sure he won’t be able to achieve that goal right now because our armed forces won’t let him in there, but he wants to. Odessa is of strategic importance. It is the largest city on the Black Sea. There are the largest piers. For Putin, control of Odesa means control of the Black Sea. This is a strategic issue. As we can see, without control over Odesa, Russia has lost a significant part of the Black Sea Fleet. They continue to lose it, everything is complicated for them,” said Goncharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

“If everything is complicated for us on land, then everything is complicated for them in the sea [krieviem]. Why? Because it is Odessa. That is why it is really important for Putin. It will be a challenge for the whole world because of the huge threat to Modova from Odessa. If only Putin goes as far as Modova, then he will really attack it. It is also a threat to Romania, the entire Black Sea region,” explained Goncharenko. He emphasized that Russia currently has a “colossal influence” on the world energy market.

In an interview with TV24, the member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine continued to say what would happen if South Ukraine and the large port of Odessa were returned to Russia. “Then Russia will become the biggest player in the world food market, which is generally a colossal opportunity – it’s a strategic thing. Putin understands this very well. Therefore, Odessa is a strategic goal for him,” said Goncharenko.

Continuing the discussion, the Ukrainian politician expressed the opinion that he has the feeling that the West is afraid of Russia’s loss in the war. “We want Ukraine to win, but somehow also so that Russia does not lose. It is not possible, it will not happen! It’s a constant game…I understand it’s partly about Russian nukes. The West fears Russian nuclear weapons. But it must be understood that the more the West is afraid of Russian nuclear weapons, the more it encourages Putin to stir up this topic and use it. It is a very dangerous path,” Goncharenko admitted in an interview on TV24’s “Globuss” program.

Does Putin now have a reason to attack NATO countries? “He doesn’t need a reason. You think – desire… He has a huge desire to attack the Baltic States, I have no doubt about it! For now, he does not undertake to do so. That’s why I think he’s looking into what the situation is. Once a missile lands on Polish territory for 40 seconds… Let’s see what happens next. Let’s see who will become the president of the United States. If there is a new president, how will he treat it? I think that currently there are two countries in the risk zone – Georgia and Kazakhstan, which are not protected by the NATO “umbrella”. But if Putin succeeds there, then the Baltic countries will be next. This is the reality,” thinks Goncharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, discussing Putin’s goals in Ukraine and other countries, including the Baltic states, on the TV24 program “Globuss”.
