The group “Balozu Pilni Pagalmi” was founded in 1994 under the auspices of the legendary music publishing house “Tornis”. The composition of the group has changed several times over the course of thirty years, but its constant core is the author of music and lyrics, Māris Šverns. For the past 14 years, the group has been formed by Māris Šverns (voice, guitar), Klāvs Lauls (bass guitar and other instruments) and Uldis Gedra (drums).

Music reviewers have written many good words about “Doves”. “Māris Šverns with “Baložiem” writes great songs that many people listen to underground and indie stamp. However, these songs have a soul, which is a rarity in modern Latvian music.” Another quote: “Since 1994, one of the cornerstones of Latvia’s independent music scene has been the musical association Baložu pilni pagalmi, which can rightfully be called Latvian underground cult group. “Yards full of pigeons” is a phenomenon that constantly experiments – overcoming clichéd feelings about the correctness of music, the musicians create very open melodies that speak about the life around us and allow us to get closer to that strange catharsis that can only be captured in the early hours of the morning, after a night that spent among like-minded people.”

In 30 years, the group released thirteen albums, the last of which was “No! A known reason” – in June of last year. The album also includes the texts of the Turkish poet Nāzim Hikmet Rana in Pēteris Brūver’s retelling of the collection of Turkish contemporary poetry “Doves full courtyards” published in Riga in 1988.

The impressive discography of “Baložu”: “Look!” (in 1995); “How strange” (in 1995); “Be with me!” (in 1996); “Letters” (in 1998); “Zabete feeds pigeons” (in 1999); “New impressions” (in 2001); “Talk to me” (in 2004); “Esi sveiks” (in 2007); “Twice Told Stories” (2011); “Station for us” (in 2014); “All their own” (in 2017); “On hot coals under burning stars” (in 2020); “No! A known reason” (in 2023), nominated for “Golden Microphone” in the category “Best indie or alternative music album’.
