Astor was one of about 1,500 people who died when the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg. But his pregnant wife Madeleine survived.

Today’s April 27 auction in Wiltshire, England, will also include a case containing the bandleader’s famous violin when the ship sank and a pocketbook documenting the Titanic’s planned voyages. The violin itself sold for $1.7 million at the same auction in 2013, making it the most expensive ship item ever sold.

The watch is expected to sell for 100,000 to 150,000 pounds ($125,000 to $188,000) and the checkbook for 100,000 to 120,000 pounds ($125,000 to $150,000), the auction house said. Henry Aldridge & Son director Andrew Aldridge.

The watch was among the personal effects found with Astor’s body after the sinking of the Titanic. Other items included gold cufflinks, a diamond ring, money and a pocketbook.

After Astor’s body was recovered, these items were sent to his son, Vincent Astor, who restored the clock to full working order. In 1935, Vincent gave the watch as a christening gift to the son of John Jacob Astor’s senior executive secretary, William Dobie IV.

Dobie’s family kept the watch until the late 1990s, when it went up for auction. An unnamed collector in the US bought it and it has since been displayed in several museums.

Also up for auction will be John Jacob Astor IV’s cufflinks and Titanic’s first class accommodation plan. The cufflinks are expected to sell for £5,000 to £8,000 ($6,250-$10,000) and the accommodation plan for £20,000 to £30,000 ($25,000-$37,500).

The auction will be held online and in person Henry Aldridge & Son at the auction house.
