What is important for young people. Theater news review

“I’m here too, what I have to do”

On the evening of Friday, May 10, in the concert hall “Cēsis”, last year’s Valmiera summer theater festival performance “I’m here, what I have to do”. In the production of director Endīne Bērzina, five young actors play teenagers who founded a group, but before the first performance they still manage to solve their mutual relations. The show is just so “unscrubbed” and teeny, that it can be safely recommended not only to young people, but also to their parents, to remember their youth.

In the end, the band’s concert still happens, and there have been shows where the audience really jumps out.

The cast of the play is very unusual – Inese Pudža from the Valmiera theater itself takes part in it, while in addition to the director Endīne Bērzina and co-director Sabīne Alice Ozoliņa, the young actors of the Liepāja theater Kārlis Elvis Artejevs and Hugo Puriņš also play the roles.

“on the net”

In the Great Guild on May 10, it is possible to watch a dance performance by Lienes Gravas produced by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra with music by Rihards Zaļupes in “Tīklā” intended for a teenage audience.

The play has also been shown outside of Riga, for example in Ventspils, but it is luck that now the people of Riga can see the production. As a choreographer, Liene Grava has collaborated with playwright Artūras Dīci several times, and this time the plot of the dance performance touches on the activities of young people on the Internet and the risks that such activities provoke. I assume that there will be viewers for whom this will be their first encounter with dance theater.

“Light Nights”

Next week in the small hall of the Liepāja theater in the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” Kristīne Brīniņa’s performance “Light Nights”, which I can recommend to young people as well as adults. The show, which is based on conversations with real people, portrays three prisoners, hears what they want to tell about themselves, their life before imprisonment and also the daily routine of the prison. The main roles are played by young actors from the last year of Liepāja theater – Artūrs Irbe, the already mentioned Kārlis Elvis Artejevs and Valts Skuja.

This week there are also premieres – “The Elephant’s Song” in Liepāja and “Gogolis. Portrait” in Mikhail Chekhov’s Russian Theater in Riga.
