Before the rally season picks up pace, Mārtiņš Sesks, in cooperation with “Tet”, “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons” and “Mission Latvia” organized a special event for fans and supporters on Wednesday – the premiere of the documentary film “Touched by Speed”.

The film tells about determination, will and speed. About the determination of a young rally driver to follow a little-known path – to win, fall and rise again in order to enter the elite of the European Rally Championship and get closer to the Olympus of motorsport. The film is the story of the fastest Latvian rally pilot Mārtiņas Seskas, who represents the third generation of the family in rally. At the same time, the film is a story about passionate people by his side, about progress towards the goal over several decades, from the Liepāja Piena combine in 1965 to the stage of the World Rally Championship in Latvia and Liepāja in 2024.

The author of the film, Sandijs Semjonovs (”Skuba Films”), followed the progress of motor sports driver Mārtiņš Seskas in the 2023 European Rally Championship, which became a turning point in the athlete’s career, and after several years, as a junior, he was allowed to enter and prove himself in the elite of Europe’s strongest rally drivers.

The film allows you to get to know both those who supported and promoted Mārtiņa Seska, as well as those opinion leaders in the Latvian rally family, who tirelessly contributed to Latvia becoming the epicenter of world rally events.

The premiere of the film, which was attended in large numbers, was also attended by popular and well-known people in the society, as well as current and former motor sportsmen and many others.

Rally Buhariki, who came to the event in a limousine, had thought of a special arrival. Raivis Ozoliņš, one of the founders of Rally Buhariki, tells about how this idea came about.

“We received an invitation from Mārtiņš Seskas to the premiere of the documentary film “Touched by Speed”. Pretty early on, we got the idea that we had to look nice, so we ordered polo shirts, which we got at the last minute. At the same time, we thought that we would give a gift, which should remain a secret, but suitable for “Rally Bukhariks”. On Tuesday, while driving to Jurmala, Pastor (the nickname of one of Rally Buhariki) asked in our chat: “What, we’ll just come to the movie and give a gift?” Maybe we’ll come with a limousine?” That idea fell flat for a couple of hours, but then I thought, why not? If it’s a limousine, then it’s like in Hollywood (laughs). Then we started writing the scene, how it could look like – girls, friends. There was even an idea that there could be guards in black suits to keep the crowd at bay, but there was not enough time for all that. But next time we will be in shape,” he says Raivis Ozolins.

“Before I put this idea out there, I called our best “Rally Buhariki” press secretary to clarify one important issue. If there is a limousine and Hollywood, then you definitely need a red carpet. Our press person found out that there will be a red carpet, and then there was no way back – we had to look for a limousine, which was quickly arranged. Yes, there were also non-believers among the “Rally Bukhariks”, but in the end we arrived in a limousine, there were horns, there were flags and everything was beautiful. However, we give ourselves a score of 7.5, because there were no guards to keep the fans, because Mārtiņš could freely come to us (laughs). I hope that we were able to give some of our own spirit on such a festive day.”
