It’s no secret that Microsoft has gone AI crazy. But that’s not the only thing a company should focus on. Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in the world, which makes it a big target for hackers. Thus, Microsoft stated that security is its top priority.

Microsoft has recently been called out for several fairly large hacks that have taken place in recent history. Between May and June 2023, Microsoft was hacked by the Chinese hacker group Storm-0558. This breach affected Microsoft Exchange Online, affecting more than 500 people and 22 organizations worldwide.

The next high-profile hack happened in the last months of 2023 or January 2024. The company was hacked by a bad actor named Nobelium. This was a Russian state-sponsored hacker who gained access to internal and executive email accounts.

Because of these hacks, the CSRB (Cyber Security Review Board) subpoenaed Microsoft and its CEO. The board said the company’s oversight was inadequate and wanted safety to be a higher priority. In the past year, Microsoft has made AI one of its main focus areas. It is aggressively pushing Copilot to Windows users.

However, when such a large company gets hacked, it certainly raises a few eyebrows. So the company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, announced that Microsoft will primarily focus on cybersecurity, and that will involve some pretty big changes to the company and its inner workings.

In a statement, Nadella said: “We are focused on continuous progress across the six pillars of this initiative as we protect tenants and isolate production systems, protect identities and secrets, protect networks, protect engineering systems, monitor and detect threats, and accelerate. response and redress.”

He also mentioned a tool that came out earlier this month called Backup Backup. It’s no surprise that Microsoft is using AI tools to help improve its cybersecurity. Copilot for Security “(combines) an LLM with domain-specific skills informed by our threat intelligence and 78 trillion daily security signals to provide security teams with actionable insights.”
