“Until a few years ago, I didn’t know where Latvia was,” says 25-year-old Rohit Gupta from India. He has already managed to surprise many people on the Internet – the guy called himself Jānis Bērziņš and created two videos in which he speaks Latvian so fluently that many people’s mouths drop. He managed to learn the Latvian language at such a level in just three and a half years.

“Man ir viens liels plāns. Gribu kļūt par karavīru vai zemessargu. Bet vēl nevaru, jo tam vajag Latvijas pilsonību,” saka Rohits un piebilst, ka zina vispārējo viedokli – ārzemnieki tiecoties pēc pilsonības, lai tālāk varētu dzīvot un “pelnīt lielu naudu” jebkur Eiropā.

Visupirms viņu savaldzinājis latviešu dzīvesveids. “Latvieši lieto karotes un dakšiņas, un arī tualetes papīru. Nezinu, kāpēc indieši to nedara,” smej Rohits. Viņam patīk arī mūsu kultūra un latviešu iedaba: “Šeit cilvēki nav glupi. Viņiem ir pašcieņa un cieņa vienam pret otru, to respektu var just.”
