Meta has improved and added new features to Threads (its Twitter clone) since its launch last June. The latest feature to reach the platform from Instagram is the Hidden Words tool. This feature will automatically filter your feeds for offensive content.

The new feature comes just hours after the platform reached more than 150 million monthly active users. The company has achieved this feat in less than a year since its founding, overtaking X/Twitter in the US.

The Threads hidden words tool will automatically filter out potentially offensive words

In a post on Threads, Instagram manager Adam Mosseri announced that the Hidden Words feature can automatically remove offensive content. This will apply to both your Follows and You feeds. In addition, it will filter search results, profiles and replies to your messages that contain offensive words. Previously, the hidden word tool only applied to replies on Threads.

It’s worth mentioning that users can add their own specific words, phrases or emoticons to the Threads settings. In this way, they can cast a wider net over offensive content that the platform filters. The company has mentioned that users can turn hidden words on or off at any time. Meta Instagram first started allowing users to filter offensive words from comments in 2016.

Threads is also testing the ability to turn off notifications for interacting with posts

The Mossers also revealed that Threads is testing the ability to turn off notifications about interactions with your posts. You will be able to turn notifications on/off by pressing the bell button in the upper right corner of the message. In addition, the brand will add a new feature that will let you choose who can quote your posts. This will allow you to withdraw these messages yourself. All three new features will be rolling out to all Threads users worldwide in the coming days.

More features are coming to Threads soon

In addition to these features, Threads will add functionality that will allow users to clean their timelines in a new way. This feature is currently in testing and will allow users to manually archive individual posts. Users will also be able to automatically hide certain posts after a certain amount of time. The company is also testing a chronological search results feature. This is currently one of the most requested features in the Threads community.
