According to the portal “Meduza.io”, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced that it has foiled a Russian plan to kill President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The SBU has announced that it has uncovered a network of FSB (Russian State Security Service) agents suspected of preparing an attempt to assassinate President Zelensky. Two colonels of the Ukrainian government’s defense unit, who were responsible for the protection of high-ranking officials, have been detained. Their names are not mentioned.

The SBU said they were part of a network of agents belonging to the FSB.

One of the tasks of the network of agents was to look for assassins, or executioners, who could kill Zelensky among military personnel close to the presidential guard.

It is alleged that the activity of the network of agents was monitored from Moscow by the 5th service of the FSB.

The suspects were searched, during which weapons and “other evidence of involvement in the organization of the attempts” were found. They are suspected of treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and preparation for a terrorist act (Part 2 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It was also planned to kill other representatives of the country’s top military and political leadership.

In addition to Zelensky, the enemy also planned to eliminate the head of the SBU, Vasiļa Maļukas, the head of the Main Intelligence Agency (HUR), Kirillo Budanov, and other officials. For example, the liquidation of HUR head Budanov was planned to be carried out before Easter, the SBU announced.

The SBU also described how it was planned to kill Budanov.

“The enemy’s plan was as follows: the initially recruited agent was supposed to observe the movements of the person being protected and pass the information to the enemy. A rocket attack was planned to hit the building where the official was supposed to be. After that, the drone was supposed to attack the people who remained at the impact site. After that, the Russians planned to fire another missile, including to destroy traces of the use of the drone,” the SBU said.
