In Russia, official Labor Day events on Wednesday almost no longer used the word “peace”, which for several decades was part of the most well-known slogan of the May 1 holiday “Peace. Work. May”, local media and “Telegram” channels observed.

In Vladivostok, local authorities have used the slogan “Work is great!” and “Spring and Labor Holiday”, which is the official name of this holiday in Russia.

The word “peace” was also used in a festive rally at a concert in Yekaterinburg, a rally in Krasnoyarsk and a demonstration in Ulyanovsk.

In St. Petersburg, the slogan known since Soviet times has been replaced by the slogan “Spring, work and Petersburg”.

According to the “ČTD” news of the “Telegram” channel, the refusal of the word “peace” in official May 1 events has been approved at the federal level.

The name has also disappeared from the records of the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Investigative Committee and federal TV channels on social networks.

In the spring of 2022, immediately after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, an article about the “discrediting” of the Russian army appeared in the criminal code and the administrative code.

Thousands of people have been punished under this article for taking an anti-war stance or reporting on the crimes of the Russian army.

There are known cases when Russian courts found people who had the word “peace” on T-shirts, badges and posters to be guilty of “discrediting”.
