Artists from 17 countries have created and exhibited 36 light installations dedicated to a more pressing contemporary problem in Brixen’s historic monastery buildings, fortress and its surroundings.

Markus Afelbach, a guest from Germany, admitted: “It’s a completely different approach to these very important topics. I think it’s easier and more accessible if you just change it or communicate it through art. It probably sticks in people’s brains longer and causes a little react differently to things you hear about or experience.”

The melting of the Alpine glaciers causes great concern in this region, so it is not surprising that artists want to express their point of view.

The organizers also admit that due to global warming, what can be lost can never be regained.

It is also a call to active action. No less disturbing are other aspects of the problem, including the preservation of the environment, which is shown by stylized representations of fish and birds. Other light objects simply stir people’s imaginations or create a surreal mood and atmosphere in this mountainous area. A Spanish artist admitted that a world without climate change is a utopia, but something to strive for.
