Latvian Radio program “Good morning”

Speaking about the long-awaited US military aid, Slaidins admitted that part of it has already reached Ukraine and the results should be expected in the near future. Ukraine already uses “ATACMS” missiles, which reached Ukraine even before the US decision, and the successful Ukrainian strikes in Crimea show that it has enough of this ammunition at its disposal.

“The situation at the front is not changing at the moment. (..) The situation at the front is tense, the current situation is characterized by three things,” Slaidinš said.

“First of all, the Russian army is still attacking, they have the initiative, they are gaining territories, small ones. But the positive thing is that they are not able to develop tactical successes in operational ones. The Ukrainian front is not broken, torn apart,” Slaidins explained.

Also, Russian attacks on Ukrainian civil infrastructure continue, the main targets are Odesa and Kharkiv, energy infrastructure is threatened throughout Ukraine.

“Thirdly, Ukraine is relatively successful in asymmetric operations, successfully attacking oil refineries, Ukraine is trying to destroy the air defense in Crimea, it is probably preparing an attack on the Crimean bridge, and it would be logical to isolate the air defense first,” said Slaidiņš.

The major did not predict whether the army of the aggressor country would have significant success at the front by May 9, which is celebrated in Russia as Victory Day. Also, around May 7, when Vladimir Putin will be inaugurated as the President of Russia, we will probably hear about the events on the front from the Ukrainian side as well.
