The municipality states that placement of TV screens and beverage equipment is permitted not only on summer terraces that are not attached to cafes and restaurants located in permanent buildings, but also in summer cafes located near restaurants and cafes located in buildings. Last year, 14 cafes and restaurants used this opportunity.

In order to place an outdoor cafe, it is necessary to obtain a permit from the municipality for street sales. The permit can be applied for electronically, on the portal “eriga.lv” in the section “Street sales” or in person, at the customer service departments of the Center for Neighborhood Residents (AIC) of the city of Riga. When submitting an application, the remarks section must indicate the need to place a beverage machine and/or a TV screen.

If a street trade permit has already been received or an application for a summer cafe permit has already been submitted, the company must send information to the AIC to the e-mail “[email protected]”, indicating the cafe, its address, and attaching a photo with the arrangement of the intended elements. After obtaining a permit for street sales for the operation of mobile beverage equipment, approval for the retail sale of alcoholic beverages in the premises must be obtained.

AKKA/LAA and LAIPA licenses must be obtained to play content on screens. More information on the procedure for coordinating summer cafes in Riga is available at “riga.lv”. As reported, the 2024 World Championship will take place in Prague and Ostrava from May 10 to 26, the Latvian national team will play its first match on May 11 against Poland and will also meet France, Kazakhstan, Germany, Sweden, Slovakia and the USA in the group.
