Andris Vilks, member of the board of the Bank of Latvia and former finance minister, has died, the Bank of Latvia announced.

Vilks was elected to the 10th and 11th Saeima from the list of the Union “Vienotība” and from 2010 to 2014 he was the Minister of Finance, as well as Latvia’s trustee in the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Northern Investment Bank and the European in the council bank. In 2008 and 2009, Vilks was a freelance economic and financial adviser to Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis, and in 2009 and 2010 to Prime Minister Valdas Dombrovskis, as well as an economic adviser to the Association of Large Cities of Latvia.

In February-October 2020, Vilks was the senior official of the European Investment Bank’s regional representative office in Vilnius in institutional matters, and in 2016-2020 in 2017, he was the executive director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London and a member of the Board of Directors, representing the European Investment Bank as a shareholder, as well as in 2017-2019. in 2016, he was the deputy head of the Audit Committee, and in 2016 – the senior advisor of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, and in 2013 and 2014 – the deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, representing Latvia.
