A. Pre-election debate broadcast (May 23)

The debate with the leading candidates of the parties nominated for the post of Commission Chairman will take place on May 23 from 15.00 until 16.45 in the plenary hall in Brussels.

The event is organized by the European Broadcasting Union in cooperation with the Parliament’s Directorate-General for Communication and European political parties. Accredited media representatives, political groups, representatives of institutions and several high-level guests will gather at the event.

Accreditation and entry into the pre-election debate event

Media accredited by the EU institutions and media representatives to whom the Parliament has issued a pass valid for this year will be able to enter the Parliament to participate in the debate event and accreditation need not be requested separately.

For all other journalists who would like to attend the debate event, in the online accreditation system (JOUREG) must request a short-term pass. If journalists have already been issued with a Parliament pass, it will be automatically activated once the request has been approved in the registration portal. If the journalists do not have a pass issued by the Parliament, they will get it after the request is approved JOUREG will be available at the Accreditation Center at the entrance to the Parliament (Esplanade “Solidarność 1980”, room 01F035).

The media will be able to follow the debate from a limited number of seats reserved for the press at the back of the plenary hall. Seats in the visitor area can be reserved until May 16 using this link.

To book other audiovisual services and equipment, please apply by 16 May by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

The debate will be streamed live on Europe by Satellite (EbS) on the channel and on the Parliament’s website (Multimedia Center platform). They will also be broadcast live by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

For pictures, the press will have a photo opportunity before the debate. More details will be provided later.

Entering the parking lot on the day of the primary debate event

If the media require a parking space in the Parliament car park, they will need to request a parking space a few days before the event using IZIX app. Journalists who do not yet have the app can request a parking space by writing to [email protected].

B. Election night (June 9)

On June 9 of this year, the plenary hall in Brussels will be transformed into a press room with a stage and live TV broadcast booths. Only accredited media representatives and necessary Parliament staff will be able to enter the event.

Media will have access to the plenary session hall and its adjacent rooms, as well as Karamanlis transition where the live audio-visual broadcast booths will be located. The election night event will take place from approximately 17.00 until the next day at 1.00 at night. There will be a special program of broadcasts EbS channel, and streaming will also take place on the Multimedia Center platform.

Accreditation and entry into the night event

All media and media representatives accredited by the EU institutions, to whom the Parliament has issued a pass valid for this year, will be able to enter the Parliament to participate in the election night event, and accreditation need not be requested separately.

For all other journalists in the online accreditation system (JOUREG) must request a short-term pass. If journalists have already been issued with a Parliament pass, it will be automatically activated once the request has been approved in the registration portal. If the journalists do not have a pass previously issued by the Parliament, they will get it after confirming the request JOUREG from June 6 to 9, it can be obtained at the Accreditation Center at the entrance to the Parliament (Esplanade “Solidarność 1980”, room 01F035).

Seats for journalists in the press room of the plenary hall will be allocated while they are available. Seats will be grouped by country.

Parking for the election night event

During the election night, the media will be able to freely use the parking lot of the Parliament. Journalists will be able to enter the parking lot by presenting a valid EP pass. Will not need to use IZIX an app that should normally be used during the weeks when Parliament is in regular session.

Election results

On election night, Parliament will continuously publish data on election results from all member states. This will be publicly available information from Member States in a harmonized format and will also be available on the official election results website:

https://results.elections.europa.eu/lv/.

Media will have a widget with the results that they can embed on their websites. The results in the widget will automatically update on election night whenever a new publication is available on the election results website. We will also provide raw data for download. Testing will take place in May with the participation of participating media to make sure the system works.
