One of the horses was covered in blood after colliding with several vehicles during the run, including a bus with a shattered windshield.
Five horses of the Household Cavalry ran loose in central London after construction workers’ carelessness caused chunks of concrete to fall onto the ground, causing the animals to startle during morning classes and knock their military riders to the ground.
Police in London have confirmed that all five horses have been captured:
“Around 8.40am we got a call about horses that had got loose and were traveling around town. Our officers have impounded two horses on the highway near Limehouse. We are waiting for the Army Horse Box to collect the horses and take them to veterinary care.”
The British Household Cavalry is a divisional corps made up of the two highest regiments of the British Army, The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals. These regiments have protected the royal family since the 1600s.
An army spokesman said: “During a routine exercise this morning, a number of military workhorses escaped. All the horses have now been recovered and returned to camp. A number of staff and horses have been injured and are receiving appropriate medical attention.”
