We will see the significance of the US military aid in Ukraine in the coming weeks and months, military analyst Mārtiņš Vērdiņš said in an interview on the TV3 program “900 seconds”.

He reminded that most of the aid provided is military, but it also includes humanitarian aid. Of the aid provided, ATACMS long-range missiles have attracted the most public attention, but no less important is conventional artillery ammunition, which Ukraine lacks.

“In the coming weeks and months, the importance of aid in Ukraine will be visible,” said Verdins and pointed out that it takes time for aid to reach the front lines.

When discussing whether and what kind of aid the USA could provide to Ukraine in the future, Vērdins emphasized that the future will be determined by the upcoming US presidential elections.

The LETA agency already reported that US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that he signed a package of bills that includes military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 61 billion US dollars.

“This is the 56th piece of equipment that the Biden administration is providing to Ukraine from the Department of Defense stockpile beginning in August 2021. The package is valued at $1 billion and includes funds to meet Ukraine’s most urgent needs, including air defenses, artillery shells , armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

The new package will include, among other things, missiles for RIM-7 and AIM-9M air defense systems, missiles for man-portable air defense systems “Stinger”, small arms and ammunition, including ammunition for combating drones, ammunition systems HIMARS, 155 millimeter and 105 millimeter artillery shells , infantry fighting vehicles “Bradley”, anti-tank systems “Javelin” and AT-4, high-precision aviation ammunition, anti-personnel mines, night vision devices and other equipment.
