Medics were called in connection with an accident when a person was thrown from a horse near Buckingham Palace, the London Ambulance Service said.

An eyewitness told LBC radio that he saw three or four horses near Buckingham Palace Road, as well as an injured soldier being thrown from the horse.

The army confirmed in a statement that “several working army horses got loose this morning during routine training”.

“All of these horses have now been recovered and brought back to camp. Several staff members and horses were injured and are now receiving appropriate medical treatment,” the statement said.

According to the army, the military unit passed an inspection before the king’s birthday parade. There were six soldiers and seven horses in the group.

During the training, the horses were frightened by the noise caused by the construction work going on nearby. Four soldiers were thrown from their saddles and five horses galloped through London.

Some of the horses collided with vehicles and at least two were injured.
