On Wednesday, April 3, the Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze met with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Anatolii Kucevol. The ambassador of Ukraine highly appreciated Latvia’s ban on the import of agricultural and food products from Russia and Belarus at the national level, as well as Latvia’s leading role at the EU level in limiting the import of agricultural products to the EU, with the European Commission raising import tariffs for the import of agricultural goods from Russia and Belarus.

In order to reduce the negative impact of Ukrainian grain on the grain market in the EU, which has caused a series of protest actions in several EU member states, for example, Polish farmers blocking transport movement on the Polish-Ukrainian border for a long time, the Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze and Ukrainian Ambassador Anatolii Kutsevolu agreed that Ukraine should reorient to export to the EU agricultural products that EU countries produce in insufficient quantities, such as protein-containing products for animal feed and poultry farming. On the other hand, cereals grown in Ukraine should be purposefully exported to regions where, unlike in the EU, they are in insufficient quantities.
