Last week, the average price of electricity in Latvia decreased by 34% and was 55.51 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), the representatives of JSC “Latvenergo” informed LETA agency.

Last week, electricity prices decreased in almost all trading areas of “Nord Pool”. The weekly price of electricity in the Baltic countries decreased by 34% and was 55.51 euros per MWh.

The price of the “Nord Pool” system decreased by 1% last week and was 54.47 euros per MWh. The average price of electricity in Poland last week was 68.14 euros per MWh, in Germany – 60.72 euros per MWh, and in the Netherlands the average price of electricity was 61.37 euros per MWh.

Last week’s decline in electricity prices was driven by 8% lower demand in the Nord Pool region, which was affected by longer holiday holidays and warmer-than-normal weather. Although the availability of Nordic nuclear power plants increased by 7% compared to the previous week, the development of wind farms in the Nordic countries fell by 23%, limiting the decline in the price of the “Nord Pool” system.

Meanwhile, in the Baltic States, wind production increased by 88%, and the amount of electricity produced by solar and hydropower plants was 28% higher than a week earlier. At the same time, energy flows to the Baltics decreased by 47% compared to the previous week.
