Steve Martin, 78, and Martin Short, 74, met on the backstage of a TV show in 1984, but crossed paths for the first time on set two years later. The excellent comedy “Three Amigos!” was their first joint project.

According to the script, they were very close friends who lived in the same house. But even outside of work, the two actors got close quite quickly, they played board games and, of course, joked around in between filming. Steve Martin later said that laughter was what united them, because if a person can make you smile, then you want to be around them.

The producers also noticed their screen “chemistry” and in 1991 offered them another joint project – the film “Father of the Bride” – which turned out to be very successful and became part of the “golden fund” of American comedy. Martin played the bride’s father, while Short played the eccentric wedding planner.
