14 authors are participating in the poetry festival this year – the poet of Somali origin Lubi Barre, the Afghan poet Ramin Mazhar, the poet of Iranian origin Shole Volpé from the USA, as well as the resident poet of the USA Andre Nafiss-Saheli, who has Iranian and Italian roots.

European poetry is represented by Katarina Schultens from Germany, Nikola Majirov from North Macedonia, Austa Fania Sigurdardotir from Iceland, Pierre Venclair from France, María Ángeles Pérez-Lopez from Spain, Selahatin Yolgiden from Turkey and Susinukke Kosola from Finland. Jeļena Glazova, Guntars Godiņš and Kārlis Vērdiņš are participating in the festival from Latvia.

All festival participants will take part in the poetry concert at the Jelgava House of Culture. This event will mix poetry readings with contemporary jazz improvisations performed by Sven Wilson (guitar), Tom Mikals (keyboards), Tom Posch (bass) and Rudolf Dankfeld (percussion).

You can follow the concert live on the public media portal LSM.lv.

Taking into account geopolitical and social developments, as well as the actuality of violence in Latvia and the world, the theme of this year’s festival is “Empathy”, thus encouraging to increase the awareness and importance of this value with the help of poetry and culture.

The organizers of the festival have also published an anthology of the festival’s poetry with the works of all authors and their translations into Latvian. This publication is available free of charge to all interested parties at the festival events.

The “Page Break” tradition was established in 2022, when an international poetry event was organized for the first time in Latvia, which brought together internationally known poets.

The third international poetry festival “Page Break” is organized by the association “I Did It” in cooperation with the city of Jelgava, it is supported by the State Cultural Capital Fund, the Office of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Latvia, the French Institute in Latvia, the Embassy of Spain in Latvia, “Acción Cultural Española” and Jelgava Printing House.
