For both Latvia and France, the beginning of the championship was not exactly as planned. If the Latvians, albeit in overtime, still defeated the Polish national team, then the French national team suffered a defeat against Kazakhstan. In order not to complicate the path to the quarterfinals, the Latvian national team definitely needs a victory.

In the continuation of the group stage, Latvian hockey players will have to play against Kazakhstan (May 14), Germany (May 15), Sweden (May 18), Slovakia (May 19) and the USA national team (May 21) in Ostrava. The four strongest teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals. The medal winners of the championship in the Czech Republic will be announced at the finals in Prague on May 26.
