Where in Riga will you be able to watch the live broadcasts of the world hockey championship games on the big screens?

In order for Riga residents and city guests to be able to follow the world ice hockey championship and Latvian men’s ice hockey national team matches, live public viewing of the championship will be held on the big screen in Dome Square, informs the External Communication Department of Riga City Council.

Public viewing of live broadcasts will begin today, while the first games of the Latvian hockey team this weekend are scheduled for May 11 at 17.20 and on May 12 at 17.20

Dome Square will be adapted and landscaped for public viewing of live broadcasts, benches and a large screen will be placed.

It will be offered to watch live broadcasts of all games, including the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

As the LETA agency found out in the Riga City Council, the maximum planned costs for joint observation of hockey games are up to 70,000 euros. Exact costs will be known after the championship.

“Hockey spring in the VEF quarter” will also take place in the VEF quarter in Riga from today until May 25, informs Karlīne Cercina, the representative of the organizers of the event.

A large stage and screen will be placed on the territory of the VEF promenade especially for the world hockey festival. The territory will be decorated according to the holiday – the VEF bar will be open, a street food area, various activities for young and old will be planned.

Hockey spring today at At 5:15 p.m., the residents of the VEF block – Veizān dance school will open, transferring their youthful energy to the hockey players. On the other hand, after the game, the guests will be entertained by a sports stand-up show with Rūdolfs Kugrēnas, and after the Latvian games, “Red Bull” DJs will take care of the party.

While the parents are enjoying the hockey game, the children will be engaged in the special familiarization trainings of “The Spot” center, where young people will be able to try various sports under the guidance of the coach and familiarize themselves with the center’s possibilities. The event will be environmentally friendly, so a deposit system will work at the VEF bar. Tables must be reserved in advance. If the weather forecast promises precipitation, then the events will move from the promenade to the VEF summer house.

The organizers of the event invite visitors to follow the safety rules of the area by leaving children’s bicycles and scooters at home. It will not be allowed to bring drinks and food into the area. It should also be taken into account that photographs and videos will be taken during the event.

It will be possible to park the car in the territory of the VEF block, where the “EuroPark” system operates, or in the parking lot of the “Domina” shopping center.

This year, the world hockey championship is being held for the 88th time. It will take place until May 26 in the Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava. The permission for the public demonstration of the games of the 2024 World Ice Hockey Championship was issued by Latvian Television.
