Jokic received 79 of 99 first-place votes in the voting, ahead of Shay Gilges-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks). These three players were the contenders for the MVP award, with Jokic scoring 926 points, Gilges-Alexander – 640, and Doncic – 586 points.
The 29-year-old Serbian center averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists in 79 regular season games, ranking tenth, fourth and third among all players, respectively. Jokic helped the Nuggets to a 57-25 record and finish second in the Western Conference.
Jokic also previously won the MVP award in 2020/2021. and 2021/2022 seasons of the year. Despite playing in the NBA for only nine years, Jokic made history as only the ninth player to win at least three MVP honors. Only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who is the player with the most MVP awards (6), Michael Jordan (5), Bill Russell (5), Wilt Chamberlain (4), LeBron James, Larry Bird (3), Irvin ” Magic” Johnson (3) and Moses Malone (3).
