The Latvian women’s national team, in which the world champion in rapid checkers, international master Yeļena Chesnokova, and young checkers international master candidates Malvīne and Alice Misānes played, beat the previous champions, the Netherlands, in the last round, guaranteeing victory in the master race.

The Polish team took second place, while the Dutch checkers came third.

Meanwhile, in the men’s team championship, the Latvian national team played against the tournament leader the Netherlands in the last round and the mutual match ended in a draw. As a result, the Latvian national team, which featured international grandmasters Guntis Valneris and Raimonds Vipulis and international master Roberts Misāns, won second place and silver medals.

The Dutch athletes became the winners, while the third place and the bronze medals were won by the team of our neighboring country Lithuania, which beat the Israeli team in the decisive match.

Today, both Latvian national teams will participate in the world team championship with the time control of rapid checkers, and on May 8, the battles will continue in the world team championship with the time control of quick game.
