Let’s meet in Jelgava on the city’s birthday!

--

One of the most significant traditions of the holiday week, which proves belonging to the city, unites and pleases both participants and spectators, is the magnificent city holiday procession. This year, it will take place on Friday, May 24, at 6 p.m. How grand the procession will be this time depends on us, so traditionally, companies, institutions, associations and societies, as well as residents, are invited to participate in the procession and show themselves creatively, as well as residents, joining a group of friends and relatives .

It is not necessary to register for the march in advance, but the participants are invited to think not only about the design, but also about the recognition of their collective name. Starting for the march is planned from 5 p.m. in Polkveža Oskars Kalpak, Svete, J. Asara, Lielaja Street and Ozolskvere. Important: if heavy machinery is planned to be used in the procession, it must be requested in advance via e-mail [email protected] or telephone 63023461, 25900004. You will soon be able to familiarize yourself with the detailed entry points and the sequence of the procession at www.jelgava.lv and www. .kultura.jelgava.lv.

After the parade, a festive concert program will welcome Jelgav residents at Herzog Jēkab Square, where the groups “Baritoni”, “Astro’n’out”, “Sudden Lights” and “Dagamba” will perform.

On Saturday, May 25, the festive events will start already in the morning – a fair will be held on Krišjāņa Barona Street and in the square behind the Jelgava Culture House, a tourism fair and artists’ square will be held in Hercoga Jēkab Square, and a concert of festive dance groups will be held on Lielo iela opposite the square. Until late in the evening, choirs will sing in Herzogs Jēkab Square and Ivo Fomins, “Apvedceļš” and Atis Auzāns with the “Famous Jersikas Orchestra” will perform.

Post Island will also become a festive stop on Saturday. The 65th anniversary of the folk dance ensemble “Lielupe” will be celebrated with a concert in the open-air concert hall “Mītava” and, as a thank you to the people without whom the city would definitely be different, the highest awards of the city of Jelgava will also be ceremoniously presented. Tickets for the concert are available at the “Bilešu paradīze” box office.

Also, on Saturday, sports activities are planned both on the Post Island and elsewhere in the city. The 1st stage of the Jelgava 3×3 basketball tournament will be held in the ice rink of the Past Island, while the 1st stage of the Jelgava beach volleyball tournament will be held at the beach volleyball courts of the Past Island, the Latvian strongman championship will be held at the “Vivo centrs” shopping center, and the Jānis Lūš stadium of the Zemgale Olympic Center will host the Jelgava cup competition in rugby.

Various activities will also take place in the city on Sunday, May 26, when the Ādolfs Alunāns Museum will host a theater production, while the open-air concert hall “Mītava” will host concerts by dance groups. The BJMK rock school will also become a valuable stop with creative workshops, a tour and a market on Sunday. But in the Zemgale Olympic Center, everyone is invited to the “Viola” football celebration.

In order to brighten the festive mood, Jelgava citizens are invited to raise the flag of the city of Jelgava or the country of Latvia at the buildings and institutions during the holiday week, and to attach a car flag to the vehicles.
