Austrian national team coach Ralf Rangnik has turned down an offer to become head coach of German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in July, the Austrian Football Federation (OFB) announced on Thursday.

The statement says that the 65-year-old German coach Rangnik has decided to stay with the Austrian team even after this year’s European Championship in Germany.

“I am the coach of the Austrian team with all my heart. This work brings me incredible joy, and I am determined to continue successfully on the path we have chosen,” said Rangnik. “I would like to emphasize that this is not a rejection of “Bayern”, but a decision in favor of the Austrian national team and our common goals. We are fully focused on the European Championship and will do everything possible to go as far as possible.”

Bayern must find a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, who will leave the club in June by prior agreement with its management. Bayern did not win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years this season, with Bayer Leverkusen winning the title, but have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Rangnik became the club’s first choice after rejecting Xavi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann and deciding to stay with Bayer and Germany respectively. After 31 rounds, Bayern is in second place in the Bundesliga with 69 points, 12 points behind Bayer with three rounds to go.
