In the previous game of the series, Artur Shilov made his Stanley Cup debut. As he saved 27 of 30 shots, Vancouver “Canucks” won in overtime with 4:3 and came one success away from entering the second round – the result in the series has become 3-1.
“Canucks” won both away games, but now the game in Vancouver is ahead. When asked about goaltending, head coach Rick Tuckett said he would show his cards during the regular season but play hide and seek in the playoffs.
Shilov kept the goal for the Canucks in four games during the regular season, winning three games, shooting 88.1% and averaging 2.47 goals against. The 23-year-old goaltender has played in nine regular season games and one Stanley Cup game in his NHL career.
Šilov is only the fifth Latvian goalkeeper to play in the Stanley Cup. Artūrs Irbe is the leader with 51 matches, Pēteris Skudra has played three matches, while Elvis Merzlikins and Kristers Gudlevskis have participated in two playoff games.
