“Why should the state participate in the financing of a sport at all?” Journalist Armands Puče asks in the TV24 program “Dienas personība”.

Puche believes that the state can participate in the co-financing of sports.

Sports federations, as public organizations, could handle their own sport. “If they can’t, then sit at the wheel! Don’t look at the country. The country’s priority is schools, the country’s priority is education, the country’s priority is an active, healthy lifestyle. The country’s priority is infrastructure, which of course can be used by these federations.”

The coup believes that the state organizes the nation to be healthy, happy, physically capable and powerful.

In the Ministry of Education and Science, those people who want to influence sports, they allowed the industry to show itself that they can’t. “What has been done so far has not been bad. But you have to change from time to time. And this is the time when the industry as a whole has to change as well.”

Armands Puche explains that we have shown that we know how to organize events, which is good. “We showed that money can buy medals. And I say buy in the literal sense of the word, because we showed that by investing in specific sports or specific projects, we can get medals.”

“But the country does not need a medal, the country needs a person.

The state takes care of talent, but the state does not take care of hockey, novus, badminton. There are sports federations that do this,” Puche expresses the hope that in this way this fragmentation, which he believes to be the case at the moment, will change.

However, in order for this to change, it has to come to a point… “It has to, because who has brought the industry to this point? The same people who are in the industry. Then you have to get out yourself.”
