The newest applicant for Šmitas is “Anadolu Efes”, which would also offer the Latvian a three-year contract.
De Lucas explained that “Valencia” was not at the top of Schmidt’s priorities, because the Valencia team’s participation in the Euroleague next season is not yet guaranteed.
This season, Šmits scored an average of 10.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 23 minutes in 31 Euroleague matches for Kaunas “Žalgiris”. He made shots from the game with 51% accuracy, including long shots with 37% accuracy.
Last year, “Žalgiris” extended the contract with Šmitas until the end of the 2025/2026 season. Valmierietis is spending his second season in the Kaunas club.
Before joining the Kaunas team, Šmits represented “Barcelona” since 2017, concluding a five-year agreement at that time.
After spending his first year on loan with Fuenlabrada’s Montakit, he played 107 ULEB Euroleague games with Barcelona over the next four seasons, averaging 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds.
