On Friday, Lashenko was re-elected as the president of the LFF, while the head of the Latvian Football Premier League, Maksim Krivunec, also applied for this position. Lashenko received 72 votes, and Krivunets – 21.

“We did a lot of work and met with members in the regions, talking about our vision and strategy. I was sure that my whole team would be elected along with me,” said Lashenko.

Only 12 candidates applied for the positions of president, two vice-presidents and six other members of the board, and all representatives of Lashenko’s team received the support of their members. More candidates could apply if changes were made to the LFF statutes. At the moment, they state that nominating a candidate requires the support of at least 10% of members.

“We have spoken with FIFA, UEFA and the members to form a working group, discussing possible changes in the statutes. There were difficult times in Latvian football with several extraordinary congresses, so such statutes were necessary,” Lashenko explained.

Lashenko also promised that the organization has not deviated from its goal of building seven inflatable halls. “We were faced with Covid-19, which caused the prices to rise. We have talked with companies, but local governments also need to allocate a lot of money for such projects. The goal was to provide children in every region with conditions that would allow them to train in the winter. I think we will continue to implement this project and it plays a big role in the development of Latvian football,” Lashenko emphasized.
