After 12 races, with 114 net points, the little one ranked right behind the TOP10 and by a four-point judgment remained the first behind the line in the fight to enter the quarterfinals. Seven sailors won the right to compete in the Paris Olympic Games in the last qualification regatta in the competition of 50 participants in the “IQFoil” class.

At the end of the competition, Mazais was pleased with the successful final part of the regatta, moving up 15 positions in the results table in two days. The sailor admitted that the last two months were physically and psychologically very hard to not let the surrounding circumstances affect the result.

“Many things should have been done differently, but I realize that only now,” Mazais wrote on social media. “However, the progress made and being able to be so close [olimpiskajai ceļazīmei]is a good sign and motivation to keep moving forward.”

In the week-long qualification regatta on the coast of the city of Jēra in the second half of April, Japanese Makoto Tomizawa secured victory in the final, while Lithuanian sailor Rītis Jasūnas, who won 4th place, also got one of the seven Olympic tickets.

24 sailors will compete in the Olympic regatta in the “IQFoil” class for men in the Mediterranean waters near Marseille.

The kid has set the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028 as his main goal, when he will be 23 years old. In the 2024 season, Mazai is expected to make an important start at the U-23 World Championship at the end of the summer, but his first task after the start in the Olympic qualification will be to successfully complete his schooling.

In the last Olympic qualification regatta, Latvia was also represented by Estere Kumpiņa, taking 14th place in the “ILCA 6” class for women, where the top 10 participants continue the fight for five tickets in the medal round.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
